What is an urban kitchen?
An urban kitchen is rugged, industrial and full of contrast. And as the name suggests, this style of kitchen is inspired by city life. It features raw materials such as concrete (or concrete-look finishes), steel, brick walls and stainless steel. These are combined with warm, natural materials such as wood, natural stone and leather to add extra character and atmosphere. An urban kitchen has a very open feel: you’ll often see open shelves on the walls, steel doors with glass panels, a cooking island or an industrial hanging rack above a small bar. An urban kitchen fits very well in a modern loft, but also in all sorts of other homes. In short: an urban kitchen is rich in contrasts in terms of materials, has an open feel and the colours are fairly neutral.
What colour is an urban chic kitchen?
An urban chic kitchen is often predominantly dark (for example, black, anthracite, grey), combined with a contrasting colour (such as white or beige) and gold, brass or copper accents. For example: the cabinet fronts are deep black, the worktop is white and the handles are copper-coloured. But as well as neutral colours, you could also opt for an olive green, for example, combined with light wood and gold accents. To complete this kitchen style, vintage accessories and green plants add just the right finishing touch.
