MoreHow to design your Japandi kitchen
Our Japandi kitchens are based on IKEA METOD cabinets, combined with customised fronts, worktops and handles that we design entirely to your taste. The kitchen fronts are fully customised and pre-drilled. The worktop is also made to measure. This allows you to create your own Japandi dream kitchen at a reasonable price.
This is how we work
- Design your Japandi kitchen in the IKEA Kitchen Planner: you start in the IKEA Kitchen planner: a free online tool on the IKEA website. This allows you to easily determine the basic layout of your kitchen: the shape, the number of cabinets and drawers, and the location of the sink.
- Choose colours and materials: now comes the fun part: choosing colours and materials that give your kitchen that typical Japandi vibe. Think of fronts, side panels, worktops, handles and even the sink. In a Japandi kitchen, the emphasis is on calm, natural tones. Popular choices are dark or light wooden fronts, combined with a white, beige or light grey worktop. With a handle-less or wooden handle for a serene look. Take a look at our products en geef jouw voorkeuren aan ons door. and let us know your preferences. Are you unsure about the colour or material? Please feel free to request a sample board.
- Request a no-obligation quote: send us your requirements and design, and we will prepare a tailor-made quote with no obligation. This will include not only the costs, but also advice on your design, layout and materials. Sometimes we even give a few extra suggestions to make your Japandi kitchen even more peaceful and harmonious. Would you like to go through the quote together? You can do so in our showroom or via a video appointment. Completely satisfied? Then we will get to work to make your Japandi interior dream a reality.
- Realisation of your kitchen: you order the IKEA METOD cabinets and any appliances yourself; we take care of the rest. All customised products you have chosen at KOAK – from fronts and side panels to worktops and handles – are made to measure and pre-drilled so that everything fits perfectly. Of course, you will also receive clear assembly instructions so that you can easily install your new kitchen yourself. Need help with the assembly? No problem, we are happy to assist you.
What is a Japandi kitchen?
A Japandi kitchen combines Japanese and Scandinavian design. Not only is this type of kitchen very practical and sleek, it is also an oasis of calm and elegance. It truly forms the heart of your home. A place where you can relax. The power of a Japandi-style kitchen lies in the balance between form and function. Every element is carefully chosen. This makes the kitchen not only a feast for the eyes, but also logical and efficient to use. No wonder Japandi is the interior style of the moment. Typical features of a Japandi kitchen are:
- Minimalist design: clear and tidy.
- Warm, natural materials: wood, bamboo, natural stone.
- Neutral colours: white, beige, wood tones, matt black, light grey.
- Clean lines interspersed with rounded corners.
- Handle-free fronts or integrated wooden handles.
Which colours suit Japandi?
Japandi is all about tranquillity, balance and a natural look. Therefore, opt for neutral and soft shades, such as wood tones, off-white, beige, sand tones, light grey tones, matt black and soft green tones.
Our Japandi kitchen fronts and side panels are expertly crafted from 100% pressed bamboo or 100% solid oak, specially designed for IKEA METOD cabinets. Oak is known for its lively grain, while bamboo has a straight line pattern. Both materials are durable and high quality, ensuring your kitchen will remain beautiful for years to come. Feel free to order a sample board to see what our materials look like in real life.

Frequently asked questions

How do you create the Japandi style?
You can create a Japandi-style kitchen by using neutral and natural materials as much as possible, both in the kitchen and in the accessories. Think of wood, bamboo, natural stone, linen, wool, marble and rattan. For example, combine dark wooden kitchen fronts with a light-coloured, thin and subtle worktop. And opt for handle-less fronts or fronts with narrow frames that also serve as handles. Vertical strips are often placed between IKEA cabinets to enhance the Japandi effect. This makes the cabinets about 2 cm wider.
How much does a Japandi kitchen cost at KOAK Design?
Our Japandi kitchens are built using IKEA METOD cabinets as a base. This makes KOAK kitchens considerably cheaper than most other Japandi-style kitchens. You order the cabinets yourself from IKEA, based on the design you have created in the IKEA Kitchen Planner. This allows you to save significantly on the total cost. We then make customised fronts, side panels and any other parts. The result? A budget-friendly Japandi kitchen with beautiful top quality!
Because every kitchen is custom-made, we cannot quote fixed prices. However, we do have a number of price examples to give you a good idea of the costs. Would you like to know exactly how much your Japandi kitchen will cost? Request a no-obligation quote.
Is an IKEA Japandi kitchen good quality?
Absolutely! For years, our Japandi kitchens have been based on IKEA METOD cabinets, which are known for their solid quality and long lifespan. They are made from high-quality MDF or chipboard, making them strong and easy to keep clean. What's more, you get a 25-year guarantee, which is nice. And in combination with KOAK's customised fronts and side panels, the cabinets naturally get extra protection. This keeps your kitchen sleek, calm and timeless for years to come. And all without paying top dollar.
Do you use sustainable materials?
Yes, of course we use sustainable materials. Our kitchen fronts are made from wood or bamboo with an FSC label. This label means that for every tree that is felled, a new one is planted. IKEA also only uses FSC-certified wood or recycled wood.
Want to be even more sustainable? Then it's best to keep your current METOD kitchen and renovate it. You simply leave your kitchen where it is and we'll provide new fronts, a worktop, handles and/or accessories. This will give your kitchen a completely new look in no time. Whether you go for Japandi or another kitchen style, anything is possible.
